What does Ntdsutil.exe do?

Ntdsutil.exe is a command-line tool that provides management facilities for Active Directory. You can use Ntdsutil.exe to perform database maintenance of Active Directory, manage and control single master operations, create application directory partitions, and remove metadata left behind by domain controllers that were not successfully demoted using the Active Directory Installation wizard (DCPromo.exe). Access denied when trying to open a folder?

To resolve this issue, you must turn off Simple File Sharing, and then take ownership of the folder:

  1. Turn off Simple File Sharing:
    1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
    3. Under Advanced Settings, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then clickOK.

SharePoint 2010 Configuring FBA

There are not a lot of differences with configuring FBA for SharePoint 2010 compared to 2007, but there are a few.  For instance, SharePoint 2010 no longer supports “classic FBA”, rather forms based authentication is provided through Claims Authentication.  There is also the introduction of the Secure Store Service which is the next-gen of the Single Sign On service of old. Configuring ESXi 4 iSCSI initiator for Multipathing and Jumbo Frames

I recently needed to configure an ESXi 4.0 server to use the new multi-pathing capability along with jumbo frames. I have done this in the past with “classic” ESX using this fantastic post by Chad Sakac and friends which uses the ESXCFG commands within the service console. As ESXi doesn’t have a service console I had to do a little research to figure it out. The information is out there but it took a bit of finding so I decided to post the process here. (more…)
